**Due to the inclement weather and missed school days, Tri-County Schools WILL BE in session Good Friday, April 18th and Monday, April 21st.**

Dear Tri-County Parents,

Who would have imagined a winter like we have experienced? We annually plan two make-up days into our mandated 180 school calendar. However, this year that was not enough and now we have had to make some tough decisions on how to recoup our lost instructional time. At this time we have missed ten student days along with experiencing twelve two-hour delays and one early dismissal for a total of 97 hours of missed instruction. In addition to our two built in snow days on February 14th and April 21st with board approval we have already used President's Day to earn back one day of school. State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Glenda Ritz, has graciously waived three of our missed days. This leaves us with four instruction days we must recover.

Decisions like these are difficult to make and we know we cannot please everyone no matter the method we choose. I want to thank the school board for reaching a tough decision based on the goal of making best use of the instructional time and limiting the disruption to the lives of our Tri-County families and community. We will be adding four days to the end of our school year. Our final student day will now be Thursday, June 5th. I have given principals the liberty to adjust their internal schedules to meet the needs of students in preparation for the upcoming standardized testing of 3-8 ISTEP, 3rd grade IREAD and high school ECAs. The acquisition of skills for these annual assessments has been disrupted by the winter weather and I trust our administrators to make building level decisions in the best interest of our students.

Should we have any additional missed days we have put together a contingency plan for makeup. It is our sincere hope we will not need to use any of these days, yet want to prepare you in advance should they be needed. If we do need to use any of the Saturday dates buses will pick up students at their normal pick up time and return them home one hour earlier than their normal return time. You will receive further information on this if needed.

1st missed day – Good Friday, April 18th

2nd missed day – Saturday, April 12th

3rd missed day- Saturday, May 3rd

Any additional missed days – added on to end of school year
The graduation ceremony will happen as planned on Sunday, June 8th. However, the high school administration and guidance department may need to determine a new date for the Senior Scholarship/Awards night as they will need adequate time to prepare once students have completed all of their course work.
I appreciate your understanding and patience throughout this long winter. If your family has previous arrangements on the make-up days that cannot be changed please work with your building principal. If you have any questions about our make-up days please don't hesitate to contact me.

Yours in Education,

Dr. Kathy Goad

Tri-County School Corporation was established on July 1, 1964 and encompasses 232 square miles of Gilboa Township, Carpenter Township, Princeton Township, and West Point Township. Comprises the following former schools:

Gilboa Schools

The Tri-County Educational Foundation, established in March 2002, is a non-profit organization whose sole mission is "to promote academics at Tri-County Schools". The Foundation is a separate entity from the Tri-County School Corporation but shares the vision of providing and supporting academic opportunities that benefit every student. The Foundation has been able to financially support academic projects and provide student scholarships that the Corporation is not allowed to financially back because of limited funding or state law. Recent economic stress placed on most public school corporations underscores the importance of the Foundation's mission, to enhance the educational process afforded the youth of the Tri-County School Corporation.

Since its inception, the Foundation has funded twenty-nine $500 scholarships and continued to broaden the educational experience for the entire Tri-County student body. The Foundation seeks ideas for the academic enhancement programs it funds from the dedicated educators employed by the Corporation. These professionals have demonstrated a commitment to creating a learning environment that extends beyond the boundaries of traditional classrooms.

The monetary funds the Foundation possesses to support these academic projects come solely from donations, memorial gifts, and an annual telethon targeting the local community. All donations are tax deductible and the names of generous donors of $ 100 or more will be inscribed on a permanent plaque to be displayed on the school's Wall of Fame.

The School's motto is "One of the smallest, striving to be one of the best". We sincerely ask for your financial support to fulfill that motto by enriching the academic experiences of all present and future Tri-County students.
